Software/firmware update 2 days ago and now my 3rd-party ink cartridges no longer work on my HP OfficeJetPro 8710. I have always used 3rd-party cartridges with no problems. How can this be fixed since HP cartridges are so absurdly expensive! What a monopoly! HP is getting ready to lose me as a long-standing customer.

Edits - Reduce clutter
The underlying cause of the change is likely one of the following:
- The printer was manufactured after the cutoff date for enabling dynamic security (December 1, 2016)
- The printer is older than the cutoff date (not impacted by the restriction) > the ink is rejected for other , unknown reasons
There is no "fix" for the first (restriction).
For the second (not impacted), you could perhaps try a different cartridge.

Personal Opinion
The printer is near or about five years old - replacing it - for whatever reason - is not a bad option.

This is absolutely ridiculous for HP to tell me it is time to replace my printer when there is nothing wrong with it. If I was to use HP ink cartridges then the machine would not be "outdated." What a waster and a strain on the environment. The fact that you won't allow non-HP cartridges only leads me to purchase a printer that will.

How do we fix it? Disallowing non-HP cartridges is unacceptable. (I have already purchased several Non-HP sets of cartridges) That's not a solution. My printer worked great 3 days ago. Buying a new printer is not an option either. (HP: If I did, it certainly wouldn't be an HP after this shakedown).
Perhaps the more appropriate question is: How do we revert to the prior firmware version?
Thank you so much for the help and volunteering.
