HP ENVY 6455e All-in-One Printer
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

Using HP Envy 6400 All-in-One Printer. Printer began printing only in blue, failing to include any text in black or other color. I have replaced all cartridges, insured that all are installed correctly, and now cannot get any response from printer. Printer shows blinking yellow light on right lower corner of access glass, and blinking light alternating zero (0)  and E on control panel. When access door to cartridges is open,  I sometimes get blinking yellow light below one or both cartridges, sometimes do not.  I cannot use the HP Smart App to get a solution.  The HP app does not seem to recognize my printer, and allow for downloading of software or firmware.

Occasionally I can get printer to accept a Print instruction from computer, printer appears to go through a Print cycle, and then outputs a blank page.  Seems to be a software, firmware or cartridge related problem.

Any help?

Hi @Mczonynjb,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you’re dealing with multiple issues, from print output and cartridge detection problems to connectivity and potential firmware conflicts. Here are some steps to troubleshoot these issues.

Power Cycle and Reset the Printer

  • Power Off and Unplug: Turn off the printer, unplug it, and wait for about 2-3 minutes before plugging it back in and powering it on.
  • Hard Reset: Some HP printers have a hard reset procedure. Check your user manual for instructions or try holding the power button and tapping the cancel button simultaneously if available.

Check Cartridge Contacts

  • Inspect Cartridges: Make sure the cartridges have no visible damage. Remove them, check for any obstructions, and gently wipe the contacts with a lint-free cloth.
  • Reinstall Cartridges: Reinsert the cartridges firmly and check if the blinking light below the cartridges disappears. If the light persists, it could indicate an issue with cartridge recognition.

Resolve Error Codes on Control Panel (0/E Alternation)

  • This may be due to a firmware issue. If you can intermittently connect the printer to your computer, check for available firmware updates via the HP website.

Fix Connectivity Issues with HP Smart App

  • Reconnect to Wi-Fi: Ensure the printer is on the same network as your computer. Restart the router and try reconnecting the printer.
  • Reinstall HP Smart App: Uninstall and reinstall the HP Smart app, ensuring it’s up to date. Add the printer again by following the setup instructions.

Print Diagnostic Report

  • If possible, try printing a Print Quality Diagnostic Report directly from the printer settings panel. This can reveal any issues with ink flow or cartridge alignment.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
