Envy Photo 7855 All In One
macOS 10.15 Catalina

My new HP 7855 came without setup cartridges. I called HP the day it arrived. I was given an ink case number. Weeks went by, more calls, and still no setup ink. I was finally told that setup ink was out of stock; back-ordered with no availabilty date . HP agreed to exchange the printer. Days after the new printer had arrived, was working properly and the old one was returned, I received  startup ink! I called HP and asked if I could exchange the second set of startup ink, that I no longer needed, for a regular cartridge. I was told to just recycle/dispose of them. Is there some work around to be able to use the setup cartridges even though the printer has already been initialized? Something more constructive than just throwing them away?

@powmari

Welcome to the HP support community.

Insert those cartridges in your new printer and check if that works?

If that works, yes you can use it in your new printer.

If that does not work, I request you to discard those cartridges.

I hope that helps.

To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.

Cheers.

Great if it works! But, if it doesn't work, can it damage the printer?
