HP OfficeJet 3830 All-in-One Printer

My mom and i both have the all-in-one HP OfficeJet 3830. Mom uses the instant ink program, i do not. Mom’s printer was having issues that she didn’t know how to problem solve, but i do and, to save me having to go over every time she needs help, we decided to switch printers since mine is working fine. I had just put a new HP 63 black ink, single use cartridge in (the color cartridge is the original as i don’t rly use it) mine right before we decided to switch printers.

Mom’s “new” printer (my old one) is now set up and working fine via the instant ink program. My “new” printer (mom’s old one) isn’t accepting the regular cartridge (ie non-instant ink) that I’d previously installed in the other printer. This is the error message I’m getting:

“the indicated cartridge can only be used in the printer that initially used it and must be replaced.”

Is there any way i can used this practically brand new cartridge in this printer, even though I’d originally put it in the other one? It’s so unfathomable to me that I’d not only be out the money, but also the wastefulness and environmental impact of it.

Does anyone have knowledge about this situation? Thank you in advance!

Jenny
