HP Officejet 7500A Wide Format e-All-in-One Printer - E910a
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I cannot get remanufactured cartridges to work in my printer. In conjunction with cartridge manufacturer have tried a number of different permutations, but no success. I believe there's a possibility that the problem might be associated with the printer update standard, but I have no knowledge of this. I am not very computer literate. The HP cartridges are 920XL series.  My thanks if anyone can guide me through the problem to a solution.

Welcome to the HP support community.

Are you getting any error messages?

Could you elaborate on the issue for better understanding?

The underlying issue is that genuine HP cartridges are expensive, and I am trying to find cheaper, trusted, alternatives that the printer will accept.  The remanufactured cartridges that I tried to use were from a reputable company. Extended communication indicated that their cartridges had worked with other HP printers. This was also supported by other cartridge suppliers, for their products, within and beyond the UK.

With the remanufactured cartridges there were differing messages, as follows:  with all four cartridges installed a message read "the following cartridges must be replaced", and the colour symbols were given beneath the words.

With one remanufactured cartidge installed, and the the rest HP, the message read "the following cartridge is missing or damaged", and the colour symbol shown.

With earlier, empty, HP cartridges installed the message read "used HP cartridges installed"

A set of new HP cartridges produced the message "Genuine HP cartridges installed".

I hope this information helps.

I would be gratelful for further ideas of how to overcome the problem and be able to use remanufactured cartridges.

My thanks.

Reset the printer

Reset the printer to recover from printer errors or failures.

  • If your printer has a rechargeable battery, remove it.
  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the power source.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and to the printer.
  • NOTE: HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.
  • Turn on the printer to complete the reset.

Clean the ink cartridge and printhead electrical contacts

  • Remove any debris or buildup from the contacts on the cartridges and in the carriage.
  • Open the door or lid to the cartridge access area. Wait until the carriage stops moving before continuing.
  • Remove the cartridge indicated in the error message from the carriage.
  • Wipe the copper-colored contact on the cartridge with a lint-free cloth.
  • Copper contact on the ink cartridge
  • Place the cartridge to the side with the contact facing upwards.
  • Wipe the contact inside the printhead with a lint-free cloth.
  • Electrical contact in the carriage
  • Reinsert the cartridge into its color-coded slot, and then press down on it until it snaps into place.
  • Repeat these steps for any other cartridges indicated in the error message.

Hello Sandytechy20,  thank you very much for responding to my query. Before I start your instructions, how will I know whether there'a a rechargeable battery, and where it is located, please?

My thanks again.
