I put a new printer cartridge in my printer today. Since I got the printer pretty recently, this is the first time I've had to replace it. I put the printer cartridge in like normal, but it keeps saying it's validating and won't stop. Putting it back in and turning the printer off completely didn't help.

Hi @Dado6,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your printer is stuck on Validating Ink after installing a new cartridge. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Confirm the cartridge is correct and genuine
Make sure the cartridge model matches exactly what is listed for your printer.
Remove the cartridge and check for HP branding and the correct part number.

Remove and reseat the cartridge
Open the cartridge access door and remove the cartridge.
Reinsert it firmly until it clicks into place, then close the access door completely.

Check for protective tape or packaging
Remove the cartridge again and inspect it closely.
Ensure all protective tape, plastic seals, or orange tabs are fully removed.

Power reset the printer
With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the rear of the printer.
Wait 60 seconds, reconnect the power cord, and turn the printer back on.

Clean the cartridge and printer contacts
Remove the cartridge and gently wipe the copper-colored contacts with a lint-free cloth.
Do the same for the contacts inside the printer, then reinstall the cartridge.

Install only one cartridge (if applicable)
If your printer uses multiple cartridges, remove all cartridges except the newly installed one.
Power on the printer and wait for it to finish initializing, then reinstall the remaining cartridges.

Update the printer firmware
Check if the printer has a pending firmware update from the printer menu or HP software.
Outdated firmware can cause the printer to hang during cartridge validation.

Try the old cartridge (if available)
Reinstall the previous cartridge, even if it is low or empty.
If the printer initializes normally, the new cartridge may be defective.

I hope this helps.
