Hi @jonachid10,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Vertical lines on printouts from your HP LaserJet MFP M283fdw can be caused by several factors, including dirty components, issues with the drum unit, or problems with the fuser. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
1. Check the Toner Cartridge
Even though you've replaced the cartridge, it's important to ensure it's properly installed and functioning correctly.
- Remove the toner cartridge and gently rock it back and forth to evenly distribute the toner.
- Reinsert the cartridge and make sure it is securely in place.
2. Clean the Printer Components
Dust and toner residue can accumulate on various components of the printer, causing vertical lines.
- Drum Unit: If your printer has a separate drum unit, check it for scratches or damage. Clean it gently with a lint-free cloth if necessary.
- Fuser: The fuser can also collect toner residue. If your printer allows access to the fuser, inspect it and gently clean any visible toner buildup with a soft, dry cloth.
- Transfer Roller: The transfer roller can be cleaned using a dry, lint-free cloth. Do not use any liquids on the roller.
- Scanning Mirrors and Glass: If your printer has a scanner, clean the scanning mirrors and glass.
3. Run the Cleaning Cycle
Many HP laser printers have a built-in cleaning cycle that can help clear toner residue from the printer’s internals.
- From the printer's control panel, navigate to the maintenance or tools menu.
- Select the cleaning option and follow the on-screen instructions to run the cleaning cycle.
4. Check Print Settings
Ensure that the print settings on your computer are appropriate for the type of paper you are using.
- Go to the print dialog box on your computer and check the paper type and quality settings.
- Adjust the settings to match the specifications of the paper you are using.
5. Firmware Update
Ensure that your printer's firmware is up-to-date, as updates can resolve known issues.
- Visit the HP support website, check for any available firmware updates for your HP LaserJet MFP M283fdw, and follow the instructions to update the firmware.
6. Inspect Paper Path
Ensure that there are no obstructions or debris in the paper path.
- Open the printer and inspect the paper path for any visible debris.
- Remove any obstructions carefully.
7. Perform a Hard Reset
Resetting the printer can sometimes resolve temporary issues.
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
