My printer is very bad at keeping the color (only problem with black it seems) consistent in the top and bottom 7 cm of the A4 paper. If I print a full black background from mspaint there will be black lines with white in the middle and the white area is bigger and bigger closer to the top of the paper and the while lines inbetween the black has an uneven shape.
I have tried all the cleaning and adjustment tools available on the printer.
When I print a test page the printer could not even detect the page at first.
The middle part of the test page looks fine but the black and white parts have many words cut in half or in some cases only showing 10-25% of the word (cut horizontally).
The printer reports the black toner level to be about 60%.
When I print text of size 12 or smaller it is almost impossible to read because the printer in some cases prints 1 mm of the letter instead of the full 3-5 mm that is required.
Anything I can do to manually clean or fix the printer?
The printer is basically unused since I bought it 10 months ago. Dry ink or whatever should resolve it self I guess I hope but problem persists even after 20+ full page prints.
Top part is missing black text
mspaint print full black background

Hi @galvim,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you are experiencing bad print quality with white streaks when printing a black page on your HP OfficeJet 5230 All-In-One Printer, there could be a few potential causes for this issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to improve the print quality.
- Check ink or toner levels: Ensure that your printer has sufficient ink or toner. Low levels can result in poor print quality. If the levels are low, replace the cartridges.
- Clean the printhead: The printhead may be clogged or dirty, which can lead to streaks or lines on the printed page. Most HP printers have a built-in printhead cleaning utility. You can access it through the printer's software or the control panel. Follow the on-screen instructions to clean the printhead.
- Align the printhead: Misaligned printheads can cause print quality issues. Many printers have an automatic printhead alignment feature that you can access through the printer software or control panel. Run the alignment process to ensure the printhead is properly aligned.
- Check for paper jams: Sometimes, paper jams can cause streaks or lines on the printed page. Open the printer's paper tray and any access doors to inspect for any stuck or torn paper. If you find any, carefully remove it.
- Use high-quality paper: Low-quality or incompatible paper can affect print quality. Make sure you are using the appropriate paper type for your printer and try using a different batch of paper to see if it makes a difference.
- Update printer drivers and firmware: Outdated or corrupted printer drivers can lead to print quality issues. Visit the HP support website and download the latest drivers and firmware for your printer model. Install them on your computer and follow the instructions provided.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
