We have an HP Office Jet Pro 8740 we keep finding ink leaking out from underneath the paper tray and onto the table that holds the printer (the ink looks green).  What would cause this and how can it be fixed?

Hi @Connie545,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to assist you.

I see that you are facing an issue with ink leaking from your printer.

Please follow the below steps to Fix:

Check and Replace Ink Cartridges:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Open the ink cartridge access area and inspect each cartridge for leaks or damage.
  • Remove and reinstall the cartridges, making sure they are seated properly.
  • If any cartridge appears damaged or leaking, replace it with a new one.

Inspect the Printhead:

  • Carefully remove the printhead and check for any signs of leaks or blockages.
  • Clean the printhead with a soft, lint-free cloth. If there is excessive buildup or damage, you may need to replace the printhead.

Check for Internal Leaks:

  • Open the printer and look inside for any visible signs of ink leakage or spillage.
  • Inspect the internal tubing and connections for damage. This might be a bit tricky, so if you see any issues, consider seeking professional help.

Clean Up:

  • Carefully clean any spilled ink from the printer and the surrounding area. Use a damp cloth for the surface of the printer and a dry cloth for the area underneath.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!
