What is the normal amount of extra ink cartridges to have on hand?

I'm curious... how many extra cartridges (of each type) do you have on hand?  I had a previous printer enrolled in the HP ink program, and always had 2 of each (2 black, and 2 multi color) sometimes it overlapped and I actually had 3 of one of them.  This was great when I had a Large print job, and blew through one whole cartridge.  NOW, as we enrolled our new printer, I have one extra, and sometimes not even that!! My new printer uses a different cartridge for each color, so it's a total of 4 cartridges.  I often run out a day before the replacement one arrives.  The notice said I have to wait 3 - 5 days!! How do you deal with running out of ink? Have you ever asked for a 2nd back up one?  I've been in this program for about 6 years, I would have hoped they knew that I'm a loyal customer.  However, now I'm considering getting an Epson EcoTank and not dealing with all this stress of waiting.
