Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP Envy 6000 all-in-one is working well and I've printed perhaps 30 sheets of (mainly black/white) print so far, using the cartridges that came with my original purchase.

However, just recently my printer's colour display has changed - indicating (to me) that the cartridges need replacing.  (I've assumed that the cartridges provided are smaller than normal, hence a very limited print capability)

Or at least I think so - but I just don't know.

So, how can I tell when they do actually need replacing?

Do I get an alert on-screen or some other guidance?

In case anyone wonders why I'm asking here it's because whenever I try to search into HPs help pages, I get a blank page just saying 403 FORBIDDEN.

If anyone knows a way around that I'd be glad to know that too.

Thanks

Hi@MrBuzzard,

Welcome to the HP Support Community! I'd like to help!

I see you are experiencing issues with the HP Envy 6000 all-in-one.

You can check the ink levels in HP Smart. When an indicator shows low ink levels, consider having a replacement ink cartridge available to avoid possible printing delays. You do not need to replace ink cartridges until print quality becomes unacceptable.

The quality of a printed document or photo is not as expected. This link should help with streaked or faded printouts, color or black ink not printing, documents with blurred or fuzzy text, ink streaks or smears, and other print quality problems.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi and thanks for your reply.

Sorry but I should have been more exact when referring to colours - the ones I'm referring to are the lights that glow from within the machine that keep my cats amused rather than the ones on my printing!

What's happened was that the display changed from blues and greens to red flashes which, since they occurred late one night, disturbed my wife enough to wake me from my slumbers.  Unable to resolve the problem we just unplugged it - no way was I going to fiddle around at something like 1 am, thank you.

But also now, when I go to print, a message comes up to say something like "Your machine needs your attention" - implying that the ink is running out.  It still prints text with no problem but there can't be much ink left in the cartridges, can there?

And that's where I'm stumped.  My attention - where and how?

Will the message change once the ink runs out - to tell me what to do?

Will it even explain how to change the ink?

(I'm gessing that changing ink cartridges is the same as any other printer cartridges but other machines centre the ink holder ready for new cartridges to be installed.)

Does this HP machine do the same?

And that's where I need your help.  With other makes of printer the handbooks give step-by-step guidance but with nothing except pretty HP lights to giuide me I may need help.

Over to you again please.  Thanks.

Hi@MrBuzzard,

Thank you for responding, I appreciate your time and effort.

This error can happen in Windows 10 RS5 and later if the printer has not been restarted at least once after it has been set up.

To fix the error, the printer must be turned off and then on.

  1. Press the printer power button to turn it off and wait for 10 seconds.

  2. Press the power button again to turn it on.

Hi there,

Thanks for coming back so quickly - and in the process I 'kind of' discovered the answer to my problem.

Whatever link you gave me came back with a 403 FORBIDDEN notice so it set me wondering.

I went through my PC and cleared all and any Firefox cookies and cached stuff... but still it didn't work.

So I tried Chrome - and there I was able to get through with no problem.

So the answer is Firefox rather than a glitch and a matter that I'll take up with them.

I've also now been able to learn a few more things about my printer and have actually found that my ink cartridges are still around half full - so any lighting alerts are to do with the wi-fi connection rather than a shortage of ink.

I have accepted your information as the answer and also given you the 'thumbs up' for your help.

And hopefully others who are using Firefox will see this and learn something too.

Cheers
