Operating System: macOS 10.13 High Sierra

I bought a 564XL Black ink cartridge, the only place it will fit is where the Hp photo black goes. I get all the error msgs that it's not correct, the manual/instructions don't mention this size ink cartridge. Wh

Your printer has TWO black ink cartridges,

  • the wider cartridge is for Black and
  • the narrower cartridge is also black but it is called Photo black with a camera symbol.

You have to use the wider one for black slot and the narrower one for photo black slot. XL does not mean wider, it has more ink inside, that's all.
