I just installed a new black ink cartridge. Now my printer is printing out large (1 inch wide) horizontal lines over every test page. I can't align the cartridges because everything it prints out has huge spaces missing so the printer can't detect it.

I have tried:

  • Using the built-in Clean Cartridges (both levels) and Clean Page Smears options multiple times
  • Unplugging and restarting the device multiple times
  • Removing and re-installing the ink cartridge
  • Cleaning the ink cartridge contacts with a swab and distilled water
  • Shutting down the printer and making sure the ink carriage can move normally and is clean
  • Confirming that the paper type is correct, not crumpled, and correctly aligned in the tray
  • Going in and physically cleaning out the printer with canned air (despite the fact that there are no signs of smudges, dust, debris, etc) multiple times

Please help me. I've wasted 20 pages trying every fix I could find through HP support and online. Nothing has made any difference.
