Hi @Evets7,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 is still showing a “cartridge depleted” message even after installing a new cartridge. This can happen for several reasons. Let’s go step by step to resolve it.
1. Ensure Cartridge is Genuine and Properly Seated
Only genuine HP cartridges are fully recognized.
Open the cartridge access door → remove the cartridge → reinsert firmly until it clicks.
Close the access door completely.
2. Check Protective Tape
Make sure the orange protective tape has been removed from the contacts and no plastic covering remains.
3. Clean the Cartridge Contacts
Turn off the printer.
Remove the cartridge and gently wipe the gold contacts with a lint-free cloth or cotton swab lightly dampened with water.
Reinsert and power on the printer.
4. Reset the Printer
Sometimes the printer needs a soft reset to recognize a new cartridge:
Turn the printer off.
Unplug it from the wall for 60 seconds.
Plug it back in and turn it on.
5. Update Printer Firmware
Open HP Smart or Embedded Web Server (EWS).
Check for firmware updates and install them.
Outdated firmware may prevent new cartridges from being recognized.
6. Check Cartridge Compatibility
Ensure the cartridge matches the printer model (HP 8710 series).
Some cartridges from other models may physically fit but won’t register as full.
7. Try a Different Cartridge Slot
If the issue persists, try switching the cartridge to another slot if possible, or try a different new cartridge to rule out a defective unit.
I hope this helps.
