I have a HP printer 10 years old.  For 8 years I have been using LD cartridges with no problem.

In September 2023 suddenly HP would not print.  The message "used supply in use" comes up.

I put in a brand new LD cartridge but HP printer still would not print.  What is the work-around

to get this to work.  Laser Jet M1212nf MFP.  Thank you.

HP printers, like many other printer manufacturers, are designed to work optimally with their own genuine OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) ink or toner cartridges. While third-party or compatible cartridges, such as LD (if you're referring to LD Products), may work in some cases, they can sometimes encounter compatibility issues for several reasons.

 

  • Firmware Updates: Printer manufacturers, including HP, may release firmware updates that can affect the functionality of third-party cartridges. These updates are sometimes designed to prevent the use of non-OEM cartridges.
  • Quality and Compatibility: Third-party cartridges may not meet the same quality standards and specifications as genuine HP cartridges. This can lead to issues with print quality and performance.
  • Chip Recognition: Many modern printers, including HP printers, have microchips on their cartridges that communicate with the printer to verify their authenticity. Third-party cartridges may not have compatible chips or the necessary authentication, causing the printer to reject them.
  • Cartridge Design: The physical design of third-party cartridges may not match that of genuine HP cartridges, leading to installation problems or improper seating in the printer.
  • Warranty Concerns: Using third-party cartridges in an HP printer may void the printer's warranty if any issues arise due to the use of non-OEM cartridges.

 

If your LD cartridges were working previously but have now stopped, it's possible that a firmware update or some other change in your printer's settings may have caused the issue. You can try the following steps to troubleshoot:

 

  • Check for Firmware Updates: Visit the HP website and check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. If so, updating the firmware might resolve the issue.
  • Reinstall the Cartridges: Ensure that the LD cartridges are properly installed in the printer. Remove them and reinsert them to make sure they are seated correctly.
  • Clean Contacts: Sometimes, dust or debris can accumulate on the cartridge contacts or the printer's contact points. Gently clean these with a lint-free cloth or a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol.
  • Contact LD Products: If you continue to experience issues, you may want to contact LD Products' customer support for assistance. They may have specific troubleshooting steps or replacement options if the cartridges are defective.

 

Remember that while third-party cartridges can be a cost-effective alternative, they may not always provide the same level of reliability and quality as genuine OEM cartridges, and there can be compatibility issues.

Thank you - unfortunately these suggestions did not work.  There is no way to not accept HP firmware updates.

I just purchased a Brother printer HL-L2390 DW.
