Why ink cartridge latch will not lift to replace ink cartridge

The hp 5055 printer ink latch will not lift so I can replace the ink cartridge.  How to lift the latch, it seems to be stuck . I don’t want to force it to lift. What are your suggestions?

I understand you're having trouble lifting the ink cartridge latch on your HP ENVY 5055 All-in-One Printer. You're absolutely right not to force it, let’s walk through the correct steps to safely access and replace the cartridges.

Power On the Printer
Make sure the printer is turned on. The ink cartridge access mechanism only unlocks when the printer is powered.

Open the Ink Cartridge Access Door

• Lift the top cover (not the scanner lid) until it locks into place.
• The carriage (where the cartridges are installed) should move to the center automatically.

Wait for the Carriage to Stop Moving

• Do not touch the cartridges until the carriage is idle and silent.
• This ensures the latch mechanism is fully unlocked.

Lift the Cartridge Latch

• Each cartridge has a latch handle that should lift easily once the carriage is in position.
• If it still feels stuck, gently press down and try lifting again. Avoid using force.

Remove and Replace the Cartridge

• Pull the old cartridge straight out.
• Insert the new cartridge into the correct slot (black on the right, tri-color on the left).
• Close the latch until it clicks into place.

Close the Access Door

• Lower the top cover gently until it snaps shut.

Additional Tips

• If the latch still won’t lift, try a power cycle:
  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug it from the wall for 60 seconds.
  3. Plug it back in and turn it on.
  4. Retry the steps above.
