Product: HP Deskjet 4158
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

In regards to the Deskjet 4158 printer, if the color cartridge is totally empty but you have black cartridges, will the printer still work and print only in black? Or must you have a color cartridge in it with some ink remaining for it to print at all?

Hi.

It will print in bad quality with an empty Tri-color cartridge installed in the printer, but you may remove it from the printer and use the printer in reserve mode with the Black ink cartridges only installed, then you may use it successfully with the black ink only.

Thanks for the quick response, Shlomi.

 

I checked the manual and yes, I can run just one cartridge in reserve mode so good thing the printer can do that 👍.
