@Bert1112, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "Problem with printer or ink system" error on your HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One (N911a) is often related to:

  • Faulty or incompatible ink cartridges
  • Dirty or damaged printhead
  • Internal ink system failure

Since you've already tried replacing the cartridge, follow these steps to further troubleshoot:
Hard Reset the Printer

  • Turn the printer ON.
  • Disconnect the power cord without turning it off.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer ON.
  • Check if the error clears.

Remove and Reinstall All Ink Cartridges

  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove all cartridges.
  • Check for ink leaks or tape left on new cartridges.
  • Reinstall them one by one, ensuring each clicks in securely.

Clean the Printhead Manually

If the printhead is clogged or dirty, this error can appear.

  • Remove the printhead assembly:
    Open the printer, remove cartridges.
Lift the latch holding the printhead and gently pull it out.
  1. Gently clean electrical contacts (copper-colored areas) using a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol.
  2. Let it dry for 5–10 minutes.
  3. Reinstall the printhead and cartridges, close the door, and power on.

Update Firmware

  • Go to: HP Support website
  • Search for your model (N911a) and download the latest firmware if available.
  • Install it from your PC.

Reset the Ink System (Advanced)

If the error persists:

  • Unplug the printer again.
  • Remove the printhead.
  • Plug it back in without the printhead.
  • Wait for the printer to show a missing printhead error.
  • Now, turn it off, reinstall the printhead, turn it back on.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
