My HP DeskJet 2720 All-in-One won’t give me the option to print in colour even when I refill the ink. The settings on the HP Smart app doesn’t give me the choice to change to color either. I don’t know what to do. There is probably a very simple solution. Thank you!

Hi @J-mal24,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating! Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the color printing issue with your HP DeskJet 2720.

Check Ink Levels: Even if you’ve refilled the ink, make sure the color cartridges are properly installed and have enough ink. Sometimes, if a cartridge isn't recognized, it can default to black-and-white.

Update Drivers: Ensure you have the latest printer drivers installed. You can download the latest drivers from the HP support website.

Set Default Preferences:

  • Open the Control Panel on your computer.
  • Go to "Devices and Printers."
  • Right-click on your HP DeskJet 2720 and select "Printer Preferences."
  • In the preferences window, look for a "Color" option and set it to "Color" instead of "Grayscale."

HP Smart App Settings:

  • Open the HP Smart app and select your printer.
  • Go to the "Print" option and check if there's an option for color printing under the print settings.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off your printer and unplug it for about 60 seconds. Then plug it back in and turn it on.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor: This is a free tool from HP that can diagnose and fix many printing issues. You can download it from the HP support site.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
