HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw
Microsoft Windows 11

The past 2 brand new HP Yellow Toner HP 206X once the toner level gets down to 30% the printer starts to make a very loud noise  when it prints.  The last time this happend, I replaced with a brand new one and the noise stopped. It only seems to happen when the yellow gets below 30% (no other color does this).   The noise is so loud and annyoying that I am finding it hard to ignore when it is printing.  There must be something wrong with the yellow toners from HP brand. Is there a solution to this?

@tsvl, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

That’s definitely frustrating! 😩 If your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw starts making a loud noise when the yellow toner reaches 30%, but stops when you replace it with a new one, that’s a strong sign that something’s off with either the toner cartridge itself or how it interacts with the printer.

1. Check for Loose or Worn-Out Parts in the Yellow Toner Area

Open the printer and remove the yellow toner.

Look inside for any loose plastic pieces, excessive toner dust, or signs of wear on the rollers.

If there's toner buildup, carefully clean it using a lint-free cloth.

2. Check the Toner Gears

The yellow toner’s internal gears may be slightly defective, causing extra friction or noise as it wears down.

Try rotating the gear on the side of the toner manually (gently!) and see if it moves smoothly.

If it feels rough or sticks, the toner may be faulty.

3. Inspect the Imaging Drum & Transfer Belt

If the noise is coming from inside the printer, rather than the toner itself, the drum unit or transfer belt might be struggling with toner application.

Run a cleaning cycle from the printer menu to see if that reduces friction.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
