Had to use tin snips to open cardboard and plastic packaging. Two new color cartridges lost their labeling when removing the plastic cover plastic. When replacing the large black ink cartridge, a screw driver was necessary to get the orange plastic piece removed. All are new HP cartridges. There is no need for such heavy hardboard packaging.
It is time for HP to hire a printer packaging engineer. It is unlikely management has reviewed and tried to open printer cartridges HP is charging exorbitant prices for such poor packaging.

1. No. Pulling cover tab with label happens, it has nothing to do with cartridge sitting on a shelf.
2. No. Unless user has medical condition with hands in that case a cutting tool is needed.
3. It's not, bottom orange ink cover is removed by rotating.
4. No.

Both cardboard and plastic wrap has perforation for opening, and the orange plastic piece is removed by rotating and for several years now HP uses the same technique, hardly they will change it soon.

Your "canned" reply doesn't answer my questions, which I will list now:
1. When pulling the plastic cartridge cover tab, the tab rips and removing the rest of it causes the labeling to be removed. Is this caused by sitting on the shelf too long?
2. Is it normal to need to use tin snips to remove the cardboard and plastic outer packaging? This cardboard is much heavier than needed.
3. Why is a screw driver needed to remove the plastic orange ink cover?
4. Why hasn't management evaluated and tried to remove cartridges from their packaging?

Do not post your phone number on open forums. You will have every 2bit scammer calling you , telling you they are HP and trying to find ways to extract personal data or cash from you. No one from HP is going to respond to that number.
99% of the packaging choices are to reduce shoplifting and theft and ease of access has no bearing on those choices. The harder you make it to open the more obvious a thief has to be. We are in a time when stores will lockup socks and underwear as I recently saw in Everett Washington Walmart. In a prerfect world with no poverty and no scum bags you could have less packaging.
I am a volunteer, offering my knowledge to support fellow users, I do not work for HP nor speak for HP.
