My HP laserjet 1018 printer has started to print diffuse vertical bands as well as picking up already just printed lines and printing them in the `background'. bing Chat Ai said use Printer Assistant to do automatic cleaning but where to find the PA (the opening HP question form did not produce an answer; perhaps 1018 is too old for Printer Assistant?).
Thanks,
Steve

Hi @ssum ,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The HP LaserJet 1018 is a basic monochrome laser printer, and it might not have advanced features like automatic cleaning through HP Printer Assistant, especially if it's an older model. However, you can try manual cleaning steps to address print quality issues.
Clean the Toner Cartridge:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Remove the toner cartridge carefully.
- Gently shake the toner cartridge to redistribute the toner.
- Inspect the drum and the roller for any visible dirt or debris. If found, use a lint-free cloth to clean them.
Clean the Paper Path:
- Check the paper path for any obstructions, such as small pieces of paper or dust.
- Use compressed air to blow out any dust or debris.
Print a Cleaning Page:
- Some printers have a built-in self-cleaning function. Check your printer manual to see if there's an option to print a cleaning page.
Check Print Settings:
- Ensure that you are using the correct print settings for your print job. Sometimes, incorrect settings can lead to print quality issues.
Update Printer Drivers:
- Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed on your computer. Visit the HP website to download and install the latest drivers for your printer model.
Check for Firmware Updates:
- Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer on the HP support website. Firmware updates can sometimes improve print quality.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.-
