Hi, after a maintenance issue, the HP deskjet ink advantage 4645 shows a message "cartridge not compatible, the indicated cartridge is not intended for this printer" for black HP650. After changing the cartridge same message. The cartridge was working well before the maintenance issue. I try all reset procédures, but non result, same message

Hi @Christian_EBALE,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your DeskJet Ink Advantage 4645 is showing “cartridge not compatible” even with a genuine HP 650 cartridge. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

1. Remove and reinstall both cartridges

Even if only the black shows the error, remove both cartridges.

Power on the printer.

Open the cartridge access door and wait for the carriage to stop.

Reseat the black and tri-color cartridges firmly until they click.

2. Clean the electrical contacts

Sometimes a connection issue triggers a false “not compatible” message.

Power off and unplug the printer.

Remove the cartridge.

Gently wipe the gold contacts on the cartridge and inside the carriage with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with clean water.

Let everything dry for 1–2 minutes and reinstall.

3. Confirm you’re using the correct regional cartridge

The DeskJet Ink Advantage series uses region-locked cartridges.

It must be HP 650 for the correct region.

If the region of the printer changed during maintenance/reset, it may now reject the same cartridge.
This issue often appears after a service reset or motherboard replacement.

4. Try another HP 650 cartridge if available

If you have another cartridge, black or color, try inserting it.

If both are rejected, it points to a printer-side regional lock or electrical failure.

I hope this helps.

Hello, thanks for the suggestions, i have tried all what you have suggested, but the problem remain. Only the color cartridge is accepted, but the Black one is still declared "not compatible". I am very confused. I have changed the black cartridge by a new one, but same situation. I clean the gold contact on both parts. I don't think it is a problem due to region, because the color cartridge is recognized. I have tried to update the firmware, same problem

I would like to add that during maintenance issue, i have disassembled the main card and remove the CR2032 battery, to clean all the dust with an electronic  contact cleaner,  i do not know if this action can reset the mother board and such problem occurs.
