HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer

The error message reads: "Cartridge Problem—one or more cartridges appear to be damaged." It appears the problem is related to the cyan cartridge only. I have replaced the cartridge twice, cleaned all cartridge electrical contacts, pulled the cartridge carrier/printhead, cleaned all contacts on the printhead and the printhead holder, and power-cycled the printer. The error message is the same. If the cartridge and printhead do not have connectivity issues, what is left?

Any insights would be appreciated!

Hi @Twaddy55

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.

here are some additional steps you can take to troubleshoot:

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. Visit the HP support website or use the HP Smart app to check for and install any available updates.

Inspect the Cartridge and Printhead:

  • Examine the cyan cartridge for any signs of damage or defects. Even new cartridges can occasionally be faulty.
  • Verify that the printhead is properly seated and that there are no obstructions in the printhead holder.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the wall outlet, and wait for about 60 seconds. Plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes reset internal errors.

Perform a Printhead Alignment:

  • After power cycling, try performing a printhead alignment through the printer's control panel. This can help recalibrate the printhead.

Test with Another Cartridge:

  • If you have access to another cyan cartridge, try using that to see if the problem persists. This helps rule out a defective cartridge.

Run a Print Quality Diagnostic:

  • Check if the printer can print a diagnostic page. This can help identify any issues with the printhead or cartridge.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Greetings, Raj.

I have power-cycled the printer, cleaned all electrical contacts on the cartridge and the printhead, installed brand-new HP 951 cartridges, checked for updates (it is up to date), and verified the printhead is secured properly. Still have the same error message: "Cartridge Problem - one or more cartridges appear to be damaged".

I would try to print a test page or align the printhead, but the printer will not proceed with any of these functions.

I think we can assume the cartridge and the printhead are not the problem, so where do we go from here?

Many thanks!
