Hi @kamsoul101,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
1. Check Cartridge Compatibility
Ensure that the cartridge you are using is compatible with your printer model.
- Review the cartridge numbers specified for your printer model in the user manual or on HP's website.
2. Reset the Printer
Resetting the printer can sometimes resolve cartridge recognition issues.
- Turn the printer off.
- Unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
- Wait for at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and the printer.
- Turn the printer back on.
3. Clean the Electrical Contacts
Dirty or obstructed contacts can prevent the printer from recognizing the cartridge.
Remove the Cartridge:
- Open the cartridge access door and wait for the carriage to move to the center.
- Press the tab on the cartridge and remove it.
Clean the Cartridge Contacts:
- Hold the cartridge by its sides, bottom pointing up.
- Locate the electrical contacts (four small rectangles of copper or gold-colored metal) on the cartridge.
- Wipe the contacts with a dry lint-free cloth or dry swab.
Clean the Contacts Inside the Printer:
- Locate the electrical contacts inside the printer (a set of four copper or gold-colored pins).
- Wipe these contacts with a dry lint-free cloth or dry swab.
CAUTION: Ensure that the cleaning process is quick as leaving cartridges outside for too long may result in damage.
- Reinstall the Cartridge:
- Insert the cartridge into the correct slot until it clicks into place.
- Close the cartridge access door.
4. Update Printer Firmware
An outdated firmware can sometimes cause recognition issues with cartridges.
- Go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads.
- Enter your printer model number and follow instructions to download and install the latest firmware.
I hope this helps.
