Hi @Yvonne85,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 is having trouble with color accuracy, even though your cartridges are full.
Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:
- Check Cartridge Alignment: Sometimes misalignment can cause color issues. You can print a cartridge alignment page from the printer’s control panel or settings menu and follow the instructions to realign the cartridges.
- Clean Printheads: The printheads might be clogged. Use the printer’s built-in cleaning function to clean the printheads. You can find this option in the printer’s maintenance or tools menu.
- Update Printer Firmware: Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. Check the HP website for any available updates and follow the instructions to install them. Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Check Ink Cartridge Contacts: Sometimes, the contacts on the ink cartridges or inside the printer can get dirty. Remove the cartridges and gently clean the contacts with a dry, lint-free cloth.
- Perform a Printhead Cleaning: If the standard cleaning doesn’t resolve the issue, you might need to perform a more thorough cleaning. Consult your printer’s manual.
- Check Color Settings: Ensure that the color settings in your printer software are correctly configured and not set to grayscale or a similar setting that could affect color output.
- Print a Test Page: Printing a test page or a diagnostic page can help you see if the issue is with all colors or just specific ones. This can help in determining if it’s a cartridge issue or something else.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
