Thanks for the response, I was waiting to gather more info before I responded.

Here is what the supplies status report looks like on my  printer.

My Printer.jpg

The black and cyan are light and the magenta shows no color at all.

I went over to my Daughters house to see what it looks like on ger printer

Shelleys printer and toner.jpg

Everything looks good.

I put my magenta cartridge in her printer to see how it looks.

Shelleys pritner my magenta.jpg

My magenta cartridge works fine in her printer.

So, I have light printing and the magenta not working at all  and it doesn't appear to be the toner cartridge, any suggestions?

This printer is about a year and a half old.  If you look at the black usage the printer hasn't even printed a ream of paper yet.

Hello,

check the firmware version
a) for your daughter
b) with them

Which FW versions are installed?

Attention: their operating system = Win7, there is a new FW version for it: 20220729, HP Color LaserJet Pro M282-M285 Multifunction Printer series Firmware Update Utility

Note: download the FW, use a USB connection for the update.

My printer already has 20220729 firmware.  So I set up the printer as usb and reloaded it. same thing no magenta.

HP Recommended

Shut down the printer using the on/off switch
then disconnect the power cord from the printer
pull out the cartridge carriage
remove the magenta cartridge
now carefully check the contacts
- are the contacts free of dirt
- or maybe one of the contacts is damaged!

Then the contacts must be cleaned.

Can the cartridge be inserted easily without problems, i.e. without resistance?
Does the cartridge also engage correctly? Compare with the other cartridges.

If the cartridge is not recognized and the print image is still poor, the printer must be serviced.
The printer has a defect!

I've done all of that.  I also tried a new toner cartridge.

Looking at the event log I see code 54.1102 Magenta density out of range and 54.1400 Color plane registration sensor error.

Is there a way to clean that sensor, where is it?

HP Recommended

the codes HP LaserJet Pro - Troubleshoot 54.11xx (color density calibration) and 54.14xx (CPR sensor) messages

Search the Internet for HP repair center.

Kind Regards
