Hi @BKM5

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the colors are mixed up and uneven on your HP OfficeJet Pro 6975 All-in-One Printer, it’s likely due to one of the following issues: misaligned print heads, incorrect ink levels, or clogged nozzles. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Check Ink Levels

  • First, make sure that the ink cartridges are not low or empty.
  • How to check ink levels:
    1. On the printer's control panel, go to Ink Levels (or Cartridge Status) under the Settings menu.
    2. If any of the cartridges are low or empty, replace them with new, genuine HP ink cartridges.

2. Run a Print Head Alignment

Misalignment of the print head can cause colors to print incorrectly or unevenly. Running a print head alignment can help resolve this issue.

  • How to align the print heads:
    1. On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Align Printer or Print Head Alignment.
    2. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the alignment process. The printer will print an alignment page that you’ll need to scan back into the printer.

3. Run a Print Head Cleaning

Clogged printhead nozzles can cause uneven or incorrect colors to appear. Running a cleaning cycle can help restore normal printing.

  • How to clean the print heads:
    1. On the printer's control panel, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead.
    2. Follow the on-screen instructions to clean the print heads. The printer will perform a cleaning cycle and may take several minutes to complete.
    3. After the cleaning cycle, try printing a test page or color document to check if the issue is resolved.

4. Check the Print Quality

Sometimes the issue could be related to poor print quality settings.

  • How to print a test page:
    1. On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Print Quality.
    2. Select Print Quality Report or Print Quality Diagnostic Page to check for any color issues.
    3. If there are visible issues on the diagnostic page, it may indicate a problem with the ink or printhead.

5. Check for Correct Paper Type and Quality Settings

Printing on the wrong paper type or using the wrong print quality setting can also cause color issues.

  • How to check:
    1. On your computer, when you select Print, check the print settings.
    2. Ensure the paper type matches the paper you're using (e.g., plain paper, photo paper, etc.).
    3. Adjust the print quality to Best or Normal for better color accuracy.

6. Update Printer Drivers and Firmware

Sometimes outdated drivers or firmware can cause printing issues. Ensure that your printer’s software is up to date.

  • How to update:
    1. Visit the HP support website and search for your printer model (HP OfficeJet Pro 6975).
    2. Download and install the latest drivers and firmware updates for your operating system.
    3. Follow the instructions to update the printer firmware.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Rachel, thank you for your assistance, but your a day late and a dollar short.  The HP assistance I got lead me to recycling the printer, doing research and replcing with an Epson 2 days ago.  I'm only as good as my info handed to me so I acted accordingly.  It was deemed that the print head is defective and can no long be serviced.
