I would like to disable the dynamic security feature on this printer. I have just put in a new cartridges and they won't work. I've used these cartridges in the past few years. After fussing with various cartridges, nothing will work, just says the cartridges must be replaced. I went into the embedded web server and selected the disable feature for HP cartridge protection, I reset and restarted the printer many times trying the tips suggested. I'm very upset I have a lot of money into the unused cartridges. Also I have been up all night trying to deal with this as I need to print stuff for work tomorrow. I can't find any help for my particular printer, it seems like some printers might be able to update their firmware and get around this. How can I revert back to some old firmware or somehow get past this?  This is only protecting HP, not me.

I am sorry you are upset.

Printer series was introduced in 2013-2014

I don't find any information that says your printer is impacted by Dynamic Security.

What are you reading?  Can you share?

Assuming you did have a printer (manufactured after Dec 2016) on which the protection was enabled:

Where used, and except as mentioned in the document, dynamic protection cannot be disabled.

I am a novice regarding tech equipment. I changed cartridges because print quality became unacceptable. Then the cartridges wouldn't work so I looked at support info and updated software. Still no luck with the recently removed cartridges or the new ones (both generic). I searched around for internet online help and found the info about this cartridge security feature. I figured that might be the problem so I disable the feature on the embedded web server per some instruction using my printer's IP address. Still no luck. I've reset, restarted the printer. No luck. the message in the printer screen says :Ink Cartridge Problem. The following cartridges must be replaced (black and color).

So I just don't know what to do. But i can't print and I've spent way too much time. I'm concerned that if I buy new HP cartridges, open them and they don't work, I will have wasted even more money on cartridges. Not easy to read about HP and ink cartridge problems. A lot of users are angry and vow never to buy another HP printer. I'm afraid I'm headed there. But I hate to waste stuff. This printer was fine. Doesn't seem like it could suddenly be trash.

You are not the first to wonder about this.

What?

Solution to original question:

This printer is not preventing use of the non-HP ink and you can take that one off the table for this printer.

Yeah, but...

Solution:

Even if the printer is not preventing use of Non-HP cartridges, there is no support for using these.

Discussion

It is possible that the cartridge is just bad.

It is possible the use of non-HP ink has in some way harmed the ink system.

It is possible the use of non-HP ink is immaterial (doesn't matter) to the situation.

You are correct - at this point, having used non-HP cartridges in the printer, it is possible switching to HP cartridges might help - or it might not make any difference.

What?

If the ink system is damaged, there is no "going back".

If the ink system is not damaged, you still have to decide what to do based on how you feel about the situation.

We can tell you where not to look (Security chip preventing use).

We cannot guarantee anything you try will fix the problem.

What if?

It's an old printer - maybe it is time to think about replacing it.

KNOW THIS:  Dynamic Security IS a factor with a new printer.  READ the details before you purchase.
