Ink cartridge appears dried out as I have not used it for 2 months.  How can I clear and use the cartridge?  Do I clean something with alcohol?  Thanks

Hi @Sid480,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Reviving a dried-out ink cartridge involves a few steps and some care, especially if you're trying to avoid damaging the cartridge. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to attempt clearing a dried ink cartridge, including the use of isopropyl alcohol for cleaning:

  • Remove the Cartridge: Power off your printer and carefully remove the ink cartridge according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Check the Cartridge: Examine the ink cartridge. If you see dried ink on the print head (the bottom part of the cartridge where ink comes out), it's likely clogged.
  • Cleaning with Alcohol
  • Prepare Your Workspace: Lay down some paper towels or a cloth to catch any ink spills. Have a small bowl of isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) and some cotton swabs or a soft, lint-free cloth handy.
  • Soft Cleaning: Moisten a cotton swab or a corner of the cloth with isopropyl alcohol. Gently wipe the print head to remove dried ink. Avoid applying too much pressure, as this could damage the print head.
  • Deep Cleaning (If Necessary): If a soft cleaning doesn’t clear the blockage, you can try a deeper cleaning. Moisten a paper towel with warm water and isopropyl alcohol. Place it on a flat surface and gently press the print head against the towel for about a minute. This can help dissolve deeper clogs.

I hope this helps.
