Hi @Stobben,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
For your HP LaserJet 179 series printer, double printing, stripes, and smudges can be caused by a few different issues. Here’s how you can troubleshoot and possibly fix these problems.
Check the Toner Cartridge:
- Double Printing: Make sure the toner cartridge is properly installed. Remove and reinstall it to ensure it's seated correctly.
- Stripes and Smudges: Clean the toner cartridge and the imaging drum. Sometimes toner particles can cause these issues.
Inspect the Paper Path:
- Open the printer’s paper path and check for any toner build-up or debris. Clean any visible dust or toner spills with a soft, lint-free cloth.
Update or Reinstall Drivers:
- Outdated or corrupt printer drivers can cause printing issues. Visit HP's website, download the latest driver for your printer model, and install it.
Check Printer Settings:
- Ensure that you are using the correct paper type setting in the printer's settings or print driver. Using the wrong setting can sometimes cause printing issues.
Perform a Printer Calibration:
- Many printers have a calibration or cleaning function accessible from the printer’s control panel or via the printer software on your computer. Running these functions can help correct print quality problems.
Replace Toner Cartridge:
- If cleaning doesn’t resolve the issue, the toner cartridge might be defective or near the end of its life. Consider replacing it with a new one.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
