[edit] I purchased a printer, signed up for instant ink and have paid monthly.  I had a fraudulent charge on my debit card last month and I had to change cards.  I have tried updating billing for instant ink, but there isn't anywhere on my dashboard to be able to do that.  In the meantime, yesterday I came into my office early to print some documents I needed for a court case but my printer was blocked.  WTH?  Who gives HP the right to block a printer I own?  So what if I miss a payment on the instant ink.  Don't send me more ink.  Simple enough.  I've tried Virtual chat, email support, etc., and can't get an answer anywhere.

Hi @THCBuildIt,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I see that you are looking for help with logging into to your instant ink account.

Change the payment method on your HP Instant Ink account.

1) Sign into your Instant Ink account.

2) Click Account in the left menu, then Billing.

3) Click Change Payment Method to open the Billing details window.

4) Select a payment method, and then enter all payment information:

  • Credit/debit cards: enter card number, CVV, and expiration date, even if only the expiration date has changed.
  • Direct Debit: re-enter your IBAN number, even if it has not changed. Confirm other payment details.
  • PayPal: follow the on-screen instructions to link your PayPal account. Home / Home Office users cannot use PayPal during initial printer setup, but may switch to it later.

Refer to this video link for more information related to the issue.

Irwin, thank you for responding.  These are the same instructions that I was given through HP support.  However, when I login and go to my "account", there isn't a "billing" option.  Hence, no ability to change my payment method.  At this point not only frustrated that this happened, but I want to know what gave HP the right to shut down my printer.  You don't want to sell me more ink, fine.  But I own this printer.  Not HP.  It is not a rental.  This is MY property that HP has no right to shut off my ability to use.

The best way to think of instant ink is like a cellphone subscription. Skip a payment and see how long your phone remains connected. The terms of instant ink is HP supplies ink to enable you to print the agreed upon number of pages per month.  Those supplies are sent to you for use while the device is covered by a valid subscription. Once the subscription ends, those cartridges are null and void. HP is not blocking your printer, you can go down to a store and purchase regular cartridges and use your printer as normal but you cannot print with the instant ink cartridges.
