We've always been using the same HP genuine ink cartridges. Last weekend, I replaced the old cartridges with the new ones, and the printer now shows indicated cartridges blocked for containing a non-HP chip. The boxes for these new cartridges have QR codes for authenticity. The printer is up to date with the firmware (shows datecode 20221018, not sure if this is the most recent one, though it says no new updates found).

Any thoughts? The new cartridges are outside of the return period. I'm stuck with it, and I don't want to spend another $300 for new cartridge set.

Hi @kq_aj,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd like to help!

I understand you're unable to print using non-HP ink cartridges

I recommend you update the printer firmware

Download available firmware updates from the HP website with the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

The third-party ink cartridges will work. But there are many cartridges in the market which is refilled and sometimes the chip is not configured to work with the printer. You need to contact the cartridge manufacturer and find out why it's not working. Try a different cartridge supplier and check if that works.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

NO. I'm using genuine cartridges and it's not reading it. I AM USING HP CARTRIDGES AND THE PRINTER IS NOT RECOGNIZING ITS OWN PRODUCT.

I am having the same issues. Why can't the solution be made public?

I am also using brand new genuine HP cartridges. I checked to scan code on the Halo sticker. They check out as being real. So why won't it accept them?  Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281 fdw  I can put the old cartridge back in and it works perfectly. I have shut down, unplugged, waited and restarted in multiple different ways with and without the new cartridge. I still get the "Indicated Cartridges Blocked For Containing Non-HP Chip" message.

So were you able to fix the problem?  We are experiencing the same issue.  We have over $600 of new toner cartridges that we purchased directly from HP that will not work.   Please advise!!!
