HP ENVY Photo 7855
Microsoft Windows 11

I would like to use a remanufactured ink cartridge, and I have used them in the past. But now when I install a new remanufactured HP-64XL (highly reviewed and highly rated product on Amazon) the print gives an error that it cannot communicate with the cartridge. I have tried everything I can find online to fix this problem. I have reset multiple times in multiple ways. I have cleaned the terminals on the cartridge and in the printer. I do have my empty HP-64 color cartridge.

I have made sure that I have genuine cartridge protection turned off and I have HP Web Services turned off.

Hi @THCleveland,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To use remanufactured HP-64 color ink in an HP ENVY Photo 7855, follow these steps:

  • Ensure that the remanufactured ink cartridges are compatible with the HP ENVY Photo 7855 printer. You can check the compatibility by reading the instructions that come with the ink cartridges or by checking the packaging.
  • Open the printer cover to access the ink cartridges.
  • Remove the old HP-64 color ink cartridge by gently pushing down on it and pulling it out of the slot.
  • Unpack the remanufactured HP-64 color ink cartridge and remove any protective tape or plastic.
  • Insert the remanufactured HP-64 color ink cartridge into the empty slot, with the label facing up.
  • Press the cartridge firmly until it clicks into place.
  • Close the printer cover.
  • Print a test page to ensure that the remanufactured HP-64 color ink cartridge is working correctly.

Note that remanufactured ink cartridges may not perform as well as brand-new ones, and they may not be compatible with all printers. If you experience any problems, such as low print quality or error messages, consider using brand-new HP-64 color ink cartridges.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
