Hi @CC332

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To downgrade the firmware on your HP 952XL printer, you’ll need to follow a specific process, as HP doesn’t typically provide direct firmware downgrade options. That said, there are some steps you can take to attempt this, but keep in mind that downgrading firmware is not officially supported by HP and may void your warranty or cause other issues. Proceed with caution.

Here’s a general guide on how to attempt a firmware downgrade on your HP printer:

1. Check Your Printer Model and Firmware Version

  • Print a configuration page from your printer (usually from the settings or via a button like "Print Configuration" or "Print Information").
  • Note down your printer model and the current firmware version.

2. Download Previous Firmware Version (If Available)

  • HP’s official support site typically offers the latest firmware updates, but older versions may not be readily available.
  • However, you can try checking HP's official support website and look for your printer model.
    • Go to Support > Software & Drivers, enter your printer model (HP 952XL), and search for available firmware downloads. Sometimes, they may list previous firmware versions in the "Previous Versions" section (if they’re available).
    • Alternatively, you may need to search the internet for other sources or contact HP support directly to request an older version of the firmware.

3. Disable Firmware Updates (If Possible)

  • Many HP printers automatically update to the latest firmware once connected to Wi-Fi or the internet. To prevent this from happening again after downgrading:
    1. On your printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Firmware Updates.
    2. Turn off automatic firmware updates, or select Manual Update if available.
    3. You can also try disconnecting your printer from the internet temporarily to prevent the printer from updating itself after downgrading.

4. Manually Downgrade the Firmware

If you have an older version of the firmware (from HP support or another source), follow these steps:

Method 1: Using a USB Flash Drive

  1. Download the older firmware version to your computer.
  2. Format a USB drive to FAT32.
  3. Copy the firmware file to the root directory of the USB drive (usually a .bin file).
  4. Insert the USB flash drive into the printer’s USB port.
  5. Follow the instructions that appear on your printer’s display (it may prompt you to begin the firmware update process).
  6. Wait for the printer to complete the update process. The printer will likely restart when it's done.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
