Hi @BradH5911,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To resolve the ink cartridge error on your HP OfficeJet 6968 printer, try the following steps.

Check Cartridge Compatibility

  • Make sure that you are using genuine HP cartridges specifically compatible with the HP OfficeJet 6968. Using non-genuine or incompatible cartridges can sometimes trigger errors.

Remove and Reinstall Cartridges

  • Turn on the printer and open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove each cartridge, wait for a few seconds, and then reinsert them securely.
  • Close the cartridge access door and check if the error clears.

Power Reset

  • With the printer turned on, unplug it from the power source and wait about 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and power it on. This can sometimes reset the printer and clear minor errors.

Clean Cartridge Contacts

  • Turn off the printer, open the cartridge access door, and remove the cartridges.
  • Gently clean the copper-colored contacts on each cartridge and the corresponding contacts inside the printer using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Reinstall the cartridges and turn the printer back on.

Reset the Printer

  • Some HP printers can be reset to factory settings. You may find this option under the Settings menu on the printer's display panel.
  • Caution: This will reset all settings and remove saved WiFi networks.

Update Printer Firmware

  • Go to HP's support website and check for any firmware updates available for your printer model. Firmware updates often resolve compatibility issues with new cartridges.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
