Hi @No1fordman,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The printhead error on the HP 6968 can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue. Here’s a guide:

1. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on to see if the error clears.

2. Remove and Reinstall the Printhead

  • Open the printer and remove the ink cartridges.
  • Carefully take out the printhead.
  • Check for any visible dirt or ink buildup on the printhead and the contacts.
  • Clean the contacts on both the printhead and the printer using a lint-free cloth or cotton swab lightly moistened with water.
  • Reinstall the printhead and cartridges, ensuring they are seated properly.

3. Check Ink Cartridges

  • Ensure that the ink cartridges are installed correctly and are not empty or damaged.
  • If necessary, try using new genuine HP cartridges to see if that resolves the issue.

4. Run Printer Maintenance

  • Use the printer’s built-in maintenance features to clean the printhead or perform an alignment. This option is usually available through the printer’s menu or the HP Smart app.

5. Update Firmware

  • Check for any firmware updates for your printer. An outdated firmware version can sometimes cause compatibility issues.

6. Inspect for Blockages

  • Look for any obstructions or blockages in the printhead assembly that may prevent it from moving freely

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
