My HP envy 5000 printer hasn't been printing in black and white for a while, only in colour. Both cartridges are full and are originals from hp. I have spent dozens of pages and ink, trying to improve printer quality, align printer heads, clean smear and printer heads and nothing. I have been getting around the problem by saving the document as painting in order to get a printing out. However, this isn't acceptable any more and I need the printer to do what it supposed to do, to print a document when it is needed.
Any tip to resolving this issue is much appreciated.
Thanks,
Robbie

Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Do you've a spare black ink?
Try a firmware update: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_1776648-1643972-16

Hi Betty0610,
Yes I have, and I have already changed not only the black one but the colour one as well.
Before the warrant expired, I took the printer to Currys. They checked it and printed a photocopy of a random page, which it worked.
So, they said there was nothing wrong with the printer. As I got home, still the printer didn't print any return labels from Amazon or anything else in black, only in colours.
Don't know what to do except saving the printing material to paint and then printing.
And other idea?

Let's try to do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:
Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.
1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'
6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
13.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo
14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
15.) Restart the computer.
Once done, please download and install the software from here:
