HP ENVY 6452e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

This problem has been stated by others previously, and they have received no solution.  I am hoping someone on here or an HP Tech will see this and provide a solution.  All my printing is fine, except when I print envelopes from Microsoft Word.  The font is something out of Halloween.  It is not ledgible.  Since I am not the only one having this problem, I am hoping that HP might have a solution.  Thank you for your time.

Hi @20eagle20,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

I understand that you are having issues with your printing printing envelopes.

If your HP ENVY 6400 printer prints envelopes with illegible or distorted fonts from Microsoft Word, here are some steps you can take to resolve the issue:

1. Check Envelope Print Settings in Word

Ensure the settings in Microsoft Word for printing envelopes are correct.

Open Envelopes and Labels:

  • In Microsoft Word, go to the Mailings tab.
  • Click on Envelopes.

Check Font and Layout Settings:

  • Click on Options in the Envelopes and Labels window.
  • In the Envelope Options tab, ensure the correct envelope size is selected.
  • In the Printing Options tab, make sure the printer feed method matches how you load the envelopes in the printer.

Set Font:

  • In the Envelopes and Labels window, click on Font to choose a legible font.
  • Ensure you are using a standard, easily readable font (e.g., Arial, Times New Roman).

2. Adjust Printer Settings

Make sure the printer settings are optimized for printing envelopes.

Access Printer Properties:

  • When you go to print the envelope, click on Printer Properties or Preferences in the print dialog.

Paper Type and Quality:

  • Set the paper type to Envelope or a similar option.
  • Adjust the print quality settings if needed.

3. Update Printer Drivers

Ensure that your printer drivers are up-to-date.

  1. Download Latest Drivers:
    • Go to the HP Support website.
    • Enter your printer model (HP ENVY 6400) and download the latest drivers.
    • Install the drivers and restart your computer.

4. Check Envelope Feed

Ensure envelopes are properly loaded into the printer.

Load Envelopes Correctly:

  • Follow the instructions in your printer's manual for loading envelopes.
  • Ensure the envelopes are not wrinkled or folded and are properly aligned in the paper tray.

Adjust Paper Guides:

  • Adjust the paper guides in the input tray to fit the envelopes snugly.

Kindly check the next steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @20eagle20,

Please find the next steps below.

5. Print Test Envelope

Print a test envelope to check the quality.

  1. Test Print:
    • Create a simple envelope with basic text in Microsoft Word.
    • Print the envelope and check the output for clarity.

6. Clear Print Queue and Restart Printer

Sometimes clearing the print queue and restarting the printer can help.

Clear Print Queue:

  • Go to Devices and Printers on your computer.
  • Right-click on your HP ENVY 6400 printer and select See what's printing.
  • Cancel all documents in the print queue.

Restart Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

7. Use HP Print and Scan Doctor

HP's diagnostic tool can help identify and fix printing issues.

  1. Download and Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:
    • Download HP Print and Scan Doctor from the HP Support website.
    • Run the tool and follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and resolve any issues.

8. Try a Different Document or Program

If the issue persists, try printing envelopes from a different document or program.

New Document:

  • Create a new envelope in Microsoft Word and print it to see if the issue persists.

Different Program:

  • Try printing an envelope from a different program, such as Google Docs, to see if the issue is specific to Microsoft Word.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the issue and print envelopes clearly with your HP ENVY 6400 printer.

Hi Elohi_NR,

I greatly appreciate you taking the time to provide your thoughts on this printer problem that I am having.  I spent several hours going through the various processes that you have suggested.

None of them worked.

After using several different #10 envelope-printing software by different vendors and having the same results, I have come to the conslusion that the problem is with the HP Envy 6400 All-In-One Printer and not MS Word or any other software.

You mentioned that you are an HP Employee.  I am a retired HP Employee (Senior-Level Systems Administrator).  When I was doing customer support and a customer was having a problem, I would work with the exact same software and hardware to determine if the problem was the software or the hardware or both.  As an HP Employee, I had access to all the various software and hardware that I needed to make a proper analysis.

Did you do that?  In other words, did you try to print an MS Word address to an HP Envy 6400 All-In-One Printer?  If so, what results did you have?

The reason I ask these questions is that, as I previously mentioned, I am not the only one experiencing this problem.  There are the same complaints on this site and the internet in general and have been for some time now.  And, as an HP retiree, it bothers me greatly that an HP product does not perform properly, as it makes us all look bad.

Considering this, I would appreciate it very much if you would move this envelope printing issue up to the techs who can provide a hardware/driver/whatever solution, so that we can have happier customers and retirees.  If this is something that you cannot do, that is not a problem.  Simply let me know, and I will make contact with HP Headquarters.

Thank you!
