Inkjet printer prints blank pages after 4 ink cartridges changed

Hi @DrBob10

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Inkjet printer is printing blank pages after changing all four ink cartridges, it could be due to a few potential issues related to the installation of the cartridges, ink flow, or printer settings. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you resolve the problem:

1. Check Cartridge Installation

  • Ensure cartridges are installed correctly:
    • Make sure each cartridge is properly seated in its respective slot. If the cartridges are not installed correctly, they might not make proper contact with the printer’s internal components, leading to blank pages.
    • Remove and reinstall the cartridges to make sure they are placed firmly in their slots. You should hear a "click" when they are installed properly.

2. Check for Protective Tape

  • Verify the ink cartridges: Ensure that any protective tape or plastic seals covering the nozzles of the new ink cartridges have been removed. Sometimes, when installing new cartridges, the tape that covers the ink nozzles can be left on by accident.
  • Look for the small pieces of plastic or tape on the cartridges and remove them carefully.

3. Run Printer Head Cleaning

  • Even if the cartridges are new, it’s possible that the printer heads are clogged, which can cause blank pages.
    1. Go to Printer Settings: Most HP printers allow you to run an automated cleaning cycle through their software.
    2. Access the cleaning function through your printer’s control panel or software:
      • Windows: Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click on your HP printer, select Printing Preferences, and then look for a Clean Print Heads option.
      • Mac: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, select your printer, and click Options & Supplies. From there, you should find an option for Cleaning.
    3. Run a cleaning cycle to unclog the print heads.
    4. After cleaning, print a test page to see if the issue is resolved.

4. Print a Test Page

  • After running a cleaning cycle, try printing a test page or a self-diagnostic page:
    • On the Printer: Most HP printers have an option to print a test page directly from the printer’s menu.
    • Using Software: You can also use your printer software to print a test page to check if all the ink cartridges are working.

5. Check for Ink Cartridge Issues

  • Sometimes even new cartridges can be defective or improperly filled. If cleaning the print heads doesn’t work, it’s worth checking if the new cartridges are properly functioning.
    • Try swapping out the cartridges one by one with older or different cartridges (if you have them) to see if any particular cartridge is causing the issue.
    • If you suspect a defective cartridge, contact the seller or HP support to replace it.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
