Hi @TRG1963,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Ensure that you are using the correct cartridge model for your HP Photosmart D110. The compatible cartridges are HP 60, HP 60XL for black, and HP 60 tri-color cartridges.

Inspect Cartridges and Printer:

  • Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Open the cartridge access door and gently remove the ink cartridges.
  • Inspect the cartridges for any protective tape that may still be on the contact points and remove it if found.
  • Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges.
  • Likewise, clean the contact points inside the printer where the cartridges make contact.

Reinstall Cartridges:

  • After cleaning, reinstall the cartridges into their respective slots.
  • Ensure that each cartridge is properly seated by pressing down firmly until you hear a click.

Reset the Printer:

  • With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the printer.
  • Unplug the other end of the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds, and then reconnect the power cord to the wall outlet and the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and check if the error persists.

Check and Replace Empty Cartridges:

  • Your printer might not function properly if one of the cartridges is empty. Consider replacing the empty color cartridge with a new one.
  • Sometimes, the printer might require both cartridges to contain some ink to function correctly. Make sure both cartridges have ink.

Update Firmware:

  • Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. Visit the HP Support website and search for firmware updates for your specific printer model.

Use Genuine HP Cartridges:

  • Non-HP cartridges might cause compatibility issues. Ensure you are using genuine HP cartridges. If you're unsure, try using a different cartridge that is confirmed to be compatible with the Photosmart D110.

I hope this helps.
