My hp3830 will not print COLOR after I replaced the color cartridge. The printer does show the new cartridge in HP Smart  I can't Copy a color document directly from the printer. I have checked the PROPERTIES box and Color is chosen. The Alignment page after replacing the cartridge, prints Black under each color name.  This has never happened before ,Help I'M out of ideas !

Hi @pdg22 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP OfficeJet 3830 not printing in color after replacing the color cartridge.

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

Check Cartridge Installation:

  • Ensure that the color cartridge is installed correctly. Remove it and reinsert it to make sure it clicks into place.

Print Quality Troubleshooter: HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool. It can automatically diagnose and fix common printing problems:
    • Download the tool from the HP website.
    • Run the tool and follow the prompts to fix any detected issues.

Print a Test Page:

  • From the HP Smart app, print a test page to see if it prints in color.
  • Alternatively, try printing a color document from another application (e.g., Word, Paint) to check if the issue persists across different programs.

Check Print Settings:

  • Make sure the default printer settings are set to print in color:
    • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
    • Select your HP OfficeJet 3830 and click on Manage.
    • Click on Printing preferences and ensure Color is selected under the Color Options tab.

Run a Clean Printhead Cycle:

  • From the HP Smart app, go to Printer settings > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead. This can help resolve issues with color printing.

Check for Firmware Updates:Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Make sure your printer firmware is up to date. You can check for updates in the HP Smart app or on the HP support website.

Try a Different Cartridge:

  • If possible, try using another new color cartridge. Sometimes, defective cartridges can lead to printing issues.

Reset the Printer:

  • Perform a hard reset by turning off the printer, unplugging it from the wall, and waiting for about 60 seconds before plugging it back in and turning it on.
