@emma351, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds frustrating to deal with printer issues, especially after changing the cartridge. The error code 0xc19a0023 typically indicates a problem with the printhead. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue:

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn on the printer.
  • Ensure the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet, not a surge protector.
  • Wait until the printer is idle and silent.
  • Disconnect the USB cable from the rear of the printer (if connected). If your printer has a network or wireless connection, leave it connected.
  • Remove the ink cartridges from the printer.
  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  • Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on. The printer might go through a warm-up period. Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent.
  • Reinsert the ink cartridges and close the ink cartridge access door.
  • If prompted, print a calibration page.
  • Reconnect the USB cable if it was disconnected.

Reseat the Cartridge

  • Open the printer cover.
  • Remove the black cartridge carefully.
  • Wipe the copper contacts (the gold-colored part) with a lint-free cloth or coffee filter slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Let it dry for 2 minutes.
  • Reinstall firmly and close the cover.

Check the Printhead:

  • Ensure the printhead is correctly installed and seated properly.
  • Clean the printhead contacts with a lint-free cloth and distilled water or a cleaning solution.

Update Firmware:

  • Make sure your printer's firmware is up to date. Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve compatibility issues with cartridges.
