Hi @Carl62_72 ,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

Have you made any changes to your printer software or hardware?

Have you installed HP regular cartridges or non-hp cartridges?

You mentioned that there isn't one" Does that mean, there are no cartridges in the printer?

If your HP Photosmart 2610 printer is prompting you to remove an ink cartridge but there isn't one installed, it may be due to a sensor issue or a problem with the printer's internal components. Here are some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:

1. Check for Residual Tape or Packaging

  • Ensure there is no tape or packaging material inside the printer or on the cartridge contacts.

2. Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn Off the Printer: Unplug the printer from the power source.
  • Wait for 60 Seconds: Leave it unplugged to reset the internal components.
  • Plug Back In: Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

3. Clean Cartridge Contacts

  • Remove Cartridges: Open the cartridge access door and remove the cartridges if they are present.
  • Clean Contacts: Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges and the corresponding contacts inside the printer.
  • Reinstall Cartridges: Reinstall the cartridges and close the access door.

4. Inspect Cartridge Slots

  • Check for Obstructions: Ensure there are no obstructions or debris in the cartridge slots.
  • Use a Flashlight: Use a flashlight to inspect the interior for any small pieces of paper or debris that might be causing the error.

5. Reset the Printer

  • Partial Reset:
    • Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord.
    • Press and hold the # and 6 buttons on the printer's control panel.
    • While holding the buttons, reconnect the power cord and continue holding the buttons for about 20 seconds.
    • Release the buttons and turn on the printer.
  • Full Reset (only if the partial reset does not work):
    • Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord.
    • Press and hold the # and 9 buttons on the printer's control panel.
    • While holding the buttons, reconnect the power cord and continue holding the buttons for about 20 seconds.
    • Release the buttons and turn on the printer.

Kindly check the next set of steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi @Carl62_72 ,

Kindly check below the next set of steps.

6. Firmware Update

  • Update Firmware:
    • Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer model on the HP Support website.
    • Download and install the firmware update.

7. Check for Mechanical Issues

  • Check the Cartridge Carriage: Ensure the cartridge carriage can move freely from side to side. If it is stuck, gently move it to the center and back to the side.
  • Look for Broken Parts: Inspect the interior for any broken or damaged parts.

8. Contact HP Support

  • If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it may indicate a more serious hardware problem. Contact HP Phone
  • Support for further assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
