I'm getting the following message:   Cartridge Problem:  One or more cartridges appear damaged

I already replaced the cartridge with a new one.  I also disconnected the printer, waited 60 seconds, and reconnected it.  I'm still getting the same error message

Anyone know how to fix this?

Hi @rllata69,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're still seeing a "Cartridge Problem: One or more cartridges appear damaged" message after replacing the cartridge and performing basic troubleshooting, there are a few more steps you can take to resolve the issue:

**1. Check Cartridge Installation

  • Ensure Proper Installation:
    • Verify that the new cartridge is installed correctly. Remove the cartridge and reinsert it, making sure it clicks into place securely.
  • Check for Packaging:
    • Ensure that all protective tape or packaging has been removed from the new cartridge before installation.

**2. Inspect Cartridges and Printer

  • Check for Damage:
    • Examine both the new cartridge and the printer’s cartridge slots for any visible damage.
  • Clean Contacts:
    • Gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer using a lint-free cloth. Be careful not to touch the contacts with your fingers.

**3. Perform a Printer Reset

  • Power Cycle the Printer:
    1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
    2. Wait for about 60 seconds.
    3. Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  • Check for Error:
    • See if the error message clears after the reset.

**4. Verify Cartridge Compatibility

  • Check Cartridge Model:
    • Ensure that the new cartridge is the correct model for your printer. Refer to the printer’s manual or HP’s website for compatible cartridge numbers.

**5. Update Printer Firmware

  • Check for Firmware Updates:
    1. Visit the HP Support website and search for your printer model.
    2. Download and install the latest firmware update if available. Firmware updates can resolve issues with cartridge recognition.

**6. Run Printer Diagnostics

  • Use Printer’s Built-In Tools:
    • Access the printer’s diagnostic or maintenance tools from the control panel or printer’s software. Look for options to clean the cartridge or perform a printhead alignment.

**7. Check for Error Codes

  • Review Printer Manual:
    • Consult the printer’s manual for any specific error codes or troubleshooting steps related to cartridge issues.

**8. Replace the Cartridge Again

  • Try a Different Cartridge:
    • If possible, try a different new cartridge to rule out the possibility of receiving a defective cartridge.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
