@Dave7821, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP DeskJet 2855e All-in-One Printer isn't accepting either old or new cartridges, here are the steps to fix the issue:

Make Sure You’re Using the Correct Cartridges:

  • For the DeskJet 2855e, the compatible cartridges are HP 67 or 67XL (Black and Tri-color).
  • If your printer came with Setup cartridges, it won’t accept standard ones until the setup process is complete.
  • Solution: Insert the original Setup cartridges to complete setup.

Check for Instant Ink Enrollment:

  • If you enrolled in HP+ or Instant Ink, the printer may only accept Instant Ink cartridges.
  • Look for messages like: "Cartridges cannot be used until printer is enrolled in Instant Ink" or similar.
  • Solution: Sign in to your HP account and check the HP Smart Dashboard. If enrolled, use Instant Ink cartridges only.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn the printer on.
  • Disconnect the power cable from the printer (while it’s on).
  • Unplug it from the wall socket.
  • Wait for 1-2 minutes.
  • Reconnect and power it back on.
  • Reinsert cartridges.

Clean Cartridge Contacts:

  • Sometimes dirty or misaligned contacts can cause recognition issues.
  • Turn off the printer.
  • Remove cartridges.
  • Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to gently wipe the copper contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer.
  • Dry completely and reinsert.

Update Firmware:

  • Download and install the latest firmware for the HP DeskJet 2855e.
  • Follow on-screen instructions to complete the update.
  • Restart the printer and try again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
