This printer has been a money pit from day one. The original ink cartridges went empty within 10 days after install with less then 10 pages printed. 2 days after new cartridges, the printer keeps popping up that the cartridges are low or empty.
I am on set number 10 of ink cartridges and I haven't even printed one ream of paper.
I then spent hours online with the HP help just for some clueless individual reading from a page to tell me to go buy more ink.
My old HP printer only used one set of ink cartridges per year where as this one is always empty.
I have my business account with hp and I am ready to replace computers but not after this purchase and how sad the HP help was.

@MGTech, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
I can feel your frustration—dealing with constant ink issues like that is really draining. 😩 It’s especially frustrating when you’ve already put in so much time, money, and effort, only to have it keep happening. It must be really tough to keep going through this.
There are a few things we can try to help troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue with your printer’s ink usage:
Check Ink Cartridge Installation:
- Double-check that the cartridges are installed properly. Sometimes, if they aren’t seated correctly, it can cause the printer to register them as empty, even if they aren’t.
Reset the Printer:
- Power off your printer and unplug it for about 30 seconds. Plug it back in, and then turn it on. This can sometimes clear out any minor software glitches causing inaccurate ink readings.
Clean the Ink Cartridges and Contacts:
- Ink cartridge contacts (both on the cartridge and in the printer) can sometimes get dirty and cause issues with ink detection. Gently clean the contacts using a soft, lint-free cloth.
Check for Printer Firmware Updates:
- Sometimes, firmware updates can address printing issues. Check if there are any updates available for your printer model on HP’s support page.
Perform a Printer Diagnostic:
- HP printers usually come with a built-in diagnostic tool that can help identify issues with ink usage. You can run the diagnostic through the printer's settings or the HP Smart app (if installed).
Monitor Ink Levels from Your Computer:
- Try using HP’s software (like HP Smart) to monitor your ink levels. It’s possible the printer’s on-screen reading might be incorrect, and checking the levels from the software could give you a clearer picture.
I truly hope things get better soon! If you need anything else or just want to vent, I’m here for you! 💪
Take care and have a good day.
