Hi @042089,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP printer has blocked your non-HP cartridges. Here’s a clear reason why and a roadmap to get printing again using your preferred cartridges:

Why It Happened

HP uses a technology called Dynamic Security to detect and block third-party or refilled cartridges. Once a firmware update activates, compatible non-HP cartridges may stop working entirely, even if they were working before.

1. Confirm the Issue

  1. Open the printer lid and check the cartridge label/contacts.
  2. If non-HP cartridges don’t have the HP holographic logo, the printer is likely blocking them.
A message like “Cartridge invalid” or “Non-HP chip detected” confirms it.

2. Basic Troubleshooting

  • Remove and reseat the cartridges firmly in the proper slots.
  • Clean the copper contacts on both cartridge and printer with a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water, then let them dry.
  • Turn off the printer, wait around 10–15 seconds, then power it on again to see if the cartridges are accepted.

3. Firmware Workarounds

Option A: Update Firmware

  • Sometimes HP sends firmware that temporarily restores compatibility; check HP's website for updates.

Option B: Roll Back Firmware

  • If the problem started after a recent update, reverting to an older firmware may disable the non-HP block. You can sometimes find these versions on HP's support site or community forums.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
