You are welcome.

Hardware?

No reason to think so.

That said, I don't have any actual experience with the printer model

You could certainly try one of the suggestions to see how far the problem extends.

==============================================================

If you have not done so, download-save-install the Full Feature Software / Full Driver for the printer

If using USB cable between the printer and the computer, disconnect the cable.

HP Easy Start Printer Setup Software

  • Download-and-Save the printer software (Full Feature Software / HP Smart / Easy Start)
  • Right-Click on the downloaded package and "Run as Administrator" to start the installation
  • Reminder:  If using Easy Start, select the Full Driver
  •   About 2/3 of the way through the setup, you will be given the opportunity to select the software - select the "Full" driver set (as opposed to the basic driver).
  • If using USB:  Connect the cable when instructed to do so (near the last part of the driver installation)
  • After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in.

Full driver provides print and scan functions (even if HP Smart proves to be stubborn).

Updates / Correction to Content

I understand...

HP Smart is not working correctly - on this we agree.

Correction:  HP Smart is not aware of the Ink levels.

The user guide indicates the method to check the ink levels on this printer is to manually inspect the level of ink in the bottle.

 User Guide

What else?

If the printer is aware of the ink levels and can report on the levels of ink in the bottles,

The information might be available using the Embedded Web Server (EWS).

NOTE:

Considering the entry in the user guide, I would guess that using EWS to check ink levels is a dead-end.

Nonetheless, EWS is quite otherwise useful - checking what it can do takes just a few minutes.

Thanks for the update.

Interesting.

HP Smart does not know what it does not know.

Interesting from an old coder's viewpoint, at least.
