Hi @annoyed8872,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
For the HP ENVY 5530 e-All-in-One Printer, the compatible ink cartridges are:
Black Ink Cartridges:
- HP 61 Black
- HP 61XL Black
Color Ink Cartridges:
- HP 61 Tri-color
- HP 61XL Tri-color
Steps to Resolve Ink Compatibility Issues:
Check Cartridge Model:
- Ensure that the ink cartridges are HP 61 or HP 61XL and not mistakenly a different model such as HP 62 or other series.
Reinsert Cartridges:
- Remove and reinsert the ink cartridges to ensure they are seated correctly.
Clean Cartridge Contacts:
- Clean the cartridge contacts gently using a lint-free cloth. This ensures there is no debris affecting the cartridge recognition.
Reset Printer:
- Turn off the printer and disconnect it from the power source for about 15 seconds before reconnecting and turning it back on.
Update Printer Firmware:
Kindly refer to this link to update your printer firmware.
Verify Cartridge Authenticity:
- Make sure that you purchased genuine HP cartridges. Non-HP or refilled cartridges might cause compatibility issues.
Troubleshooting Steps:
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, follow these troubleshooting instructions:
Open the Cartridge Access Door:
- Open the cartridge access door and wait for the carriage to move to the center.
Remove the Ink Cartridges:
- Remove the problematic ink cartridge(s).
Clean the Electrical Contacts:
- Hold the ink cartridge by its sides with the bottom pointing up and locate the electrical contacts. Clean the contacts with a damp lint-free cloth.
- Clean the contacts inside the printer with a dry swab or lint-free cloth.
Reinstall the Ink Cartridges:
- Reinstall the ink cartridges ensuring they snap into place.
Close the Access Door:
- Close the cartridge access door and check if the error message disappears.
I hope this helps.
